Eastern Electric Tube DAC

The latest from Eastern Electric, the USB Tube DAC

Our goal with the Eastern Electric MiniMax DAC was to produce the finest Digital to Analog Converter on the market today. We think we've done it and believe you will find the same. The way we have incorporated the ESS Technology 9018 32 bit DAC chip is ending the debate that digital can surpass the longtime reference, analog playback. With the Dynamic Range of 129dB,and a staggering Frequency Response from 15Hz-32KHz every note is beautifully portrayed.

Our Flagship Amplification: The M156 monoblocks.Eastern Electric M156

From James L. Darby & Vincent Caponi of StereoMojo:

"As you know, normally when eight people listen to any given component, you will get eight differing opinions. Amazingly, in this case there was unanimous agreement on the sound of the Eastern Electric M156’s."

From John Potis of Positive-Feedback:

"I haven't personally auditioned a more recommendable pair of amps with such universal appeal and I'm pleased to offer them my highest recommendation."

From Rich at AudioNervosa.com:

"After a few days I started noticing a pleasurable physical feeling in my gut that corresponded to crescendos in the music, chords and notes ebbing and flowing, and I can feel them inside me. Is it really physical? Or is it an emotional feeling from the solar plexus or navel chakra? Whatever, it was positive, it was palpable and it sure feels good."

The Minimax Lineup, one of the best discoveries of the year.

From Srajan of 6moons:

"...There's nothing mushy, syrupy, ponderous or fuzzy about the Eastern Electric Sound which, I believe, is a testament to Alex Yeung's decision for a push/pull pentode rather than single-ended triode amp to avoid excessive THD artifacts."

Eastern Electric Vacuum Tube BBA

Minimax BBA

Doug Schroeder gets serious with the $850 Eastern Electric MiniMax BBA preamplifier.

“It is a device which can turn a “Ho-hum” experience into an “Oh, Yeah!” event. With multiple placement options, one is virtually assured that there will be a pleasing configuration where the BBA produces striking results.”

EE Minimax Phonostage

Minimax Phonostage

From John Potis of 6moons.com:

"The MiniMax is smooth, neutral and listenable. It's well balanced and nicely textured, revealing all manner of musically significant detail. It sounds tubed only in that it produces a harmonic richness and image density that often eludes solid-state."

From Mike Peshkin of Positive Feedback:

"Those drums, in my room, with my equipment, were so three-dimensional, so perfectly placed in the room, and sounded so damned good, I played the cut three times."

From Customers:

"From top to bottom of the frequency scale everything sounded more solid, voices had real meat to them, brass had more bite, and bass was thunderous. The soundstage being thrown also seemed to be super-sized, with equally wonderful imaging to boot."

"Bottom line is if you're looking for a phono preamp in the 1,k to 10,k range, you owe it to yourself to at least demo this preamp. Yes, I said 10,k. It's that good."

"The Eastern Electric phonostage never becomes flustered even during complex passages in the music. It just sounds right!"

"Alex Yeung's design brief -- to reintroduce a famous circuit of audio antiquity in a contemporary makeover and with certain circuit lifts -- appears to have manifested to perfection."

From Jonathan Horner, an owner of the M520 for several months:
Hi-Fi Magazine UK
"......Nothing pleases me more than when visitors, most of whom have no interest in audio technology, are dumbfounded that reproduced music can sound so natural. This always happens when I play my system......"

Minimax Preamplifier

From 6moons.com:

"...the sensation of a steamroller absorbing and building energy like a reactor yet never hitting the wall was bloody exhilarating. "
"little MadMax had enough badness in his bones to keep me glued to my seat."
"MiniMax was clearly over 23, getting himself into the most deranged of nightclubs, then down on the floor with the best. "

The Minimax Preamp is a "Blue Moon Award Winner" :

"Within seconds it was obvious that the MiniMax was painting a big, very full and rich sonic picture. Just as apparent was the sense of great clarity. Whether the clarity was due to the point-to-point wiring and direct coupling of the stages or excellent signal to noise ratio was not clear to me - ha! There was a sense of warmth and size that was suggestive of an excellent seat in a relatively small concert hall (for classical music recordings) with fine acoustics. In the higher frequency range the usual little annoyances of a bit of harshness or edgy distortions were somehow smoothed over to a certain extent. Further meditation led me to believe that the MiniMax was simply not adding to or exaggerating these higher frequencies. Tonal balance could then be described as beautifully full with a seductive richness that made listening a relaxing and enjoyable."

From 'Enjoy the Music':

"A very dynamic, detailed, and fast linestage preamp that has been a great addition. to my two-channel system. Roger J. "

Sure, highly trained audio reviewers make it sound like our gear is the best in its class… But what are people who actually purchased their Eastern Electric Equipment saying about it? Keep reading…

A review from AudioCircle, an audio forum with respected forum members:

"…have had my my Mini Max about six months now and I am just "floored" by its qualities. Vocalists male and female both come through with such depth, resolution and poignancy at times that it is almost phenomenal!. I am tremendously happy with every aspect of this little beauty!

A review from a popular audio forum, Audio Asylum:

"Dynamics was the first thing that struck me on my first listen. I had a hard time reconciling the punchy bass and dynamics coming from such a tiny component. Once I got over that, I began to appreciate the transparency. I marveled at the crystalline clarity and sparkle of voices, cymbals, and guitar. Low level details were not obscured or blurred by any smearing or muddiness. Graininess, harshness, and etch do not come with this package. Sorry."

More reviews from Audio Asylum:

"Don't let the low cost and minimalist approach put you off - mine replaced a Audio Research SP9 MKII ... left it in the dust would be a more fitting description."

" Don't be fooled by the price. I have compared it to preamps costing 3-4 times its price and it still was the preamp I preferred."

"I was still hanging onto my Hovland in denial that a relatively inexpensive preamp like the Minimax could better its sound. Then I decided to try the Minimax with my other reference amp, the McIntosh MC2000 and the contest was over. High end at a bargain price???…enter the Minimax"

A great review By Charles Vallejo on Audio Asylum:

"The vocals on the MiniMax are to die for, but you still get tight bass and great-extended highs. Fantastic. This is what tube equipment is all about, are you a tone freak, bass freak, vocal freak? Well this beauty lets you find your freak and forget about everyone else knowing you have achieved the sound that you enjoy. And that my folks is what it is all about"

Minimax 8w Tube Amplifier

From 6moons.com:

"Despite its ultralinear strapping and DC-coupled screen grids, this is very much a triode lover's champ. It's got that archetypal penchant for vocal magic in spades - throw in hearts and aces, too. MiniMax is a unique combination of the bigger bolder sound of push/pull amps with a goodly dose of direct-heated single-ended elegance thrown in. "

A "TNT Audio" review of the amplifier:

"To my surprise, the 2 * 8 Watts Minimax sounded nearly indistinguishable to my transistor power amp. It has real power, has a solid, yet natural and deep bass, has high resolution, can be fast, shows neither soft nor grainy colorations...."

Minimax CD player (discontinued)

Sandy Greene of Dagogo reviews the Minimax CD Player.....

"I felt a greater emotional connection and understanding when listening to my CD’s through the MiniMax than with any other CD player I have had...." Read More...

Reviews from Audiocircle.com:

"Sound? It's superb. Exceptional detail retrieval with a deep and wide soundstage. It is better than any one box cd player I've ever had in my system "
http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/viewtopic.php?t=8430&highlight=eastern+electric+minimax

"...the Minimax does imaging and warmth with a smooth, controlled sound that the others did not. The details are there, the attack is immediate but in an analog way. When a note is plucked or keyed, the full harmonic balance is there. The overall character of the sound is analog. It doesn not sound like a CD player but more like a record.

Soundstage reviews the Minimax CD player:

"For tube lovers, giving the MiniMax CD player a listen is a no-brainer. And for those who are either curious or skeptical about tube designs, the MiniMax offers a practical hybrid that leverages the convenience of digital and the warmth of analog."
